In the past month or so, we have been busy in writing the drivers for Ulefone Metal into the MTK6753 Marshmallow kernel code. And now we can finally open the the kernel code for Metal to all users. That means developers will be able to make custom ROMs like CM and MIUI out of the code and we believe you will be willing to share their works online.
If you are interested in this course, please submit links to your previous works on our website and we’ll offer free Ulefone Metal to some developers for the customization. And for people who figure out excellent ROMs for the device, we’ll offer long-term partnership which will involve free Ulefone models to come and other rewards.
We have long been planning to differentiate our software so people will have brand new experiences with the same device. But this year we have released more phones, so we decide that our engineering team will focus on the improvement of stock android software to ensure good basic experiences while the development of third-party software will be left for third parties. The reason why we choose Ulefone Metal for the virgin trial is that it has comparatively big RAM of 3GB which will offer more space for developers to realize their ideas. If such experiment will effectively improve user experiences, we’ll surely open the source code of more devices in the future.
There is one thing for your attention. Since any developer is free to customize the Ulefone Metal software, it is impossible for us to be responsible for any custom ROM. So people who flash third-party software will do that on their own risk.
